How We Research & Present Data
Data Sources
AutoInsight Pro uses multiple data sources to compile the information presented on this site:
Primary Sources
- National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC): State-by-state premium data, market share reports, and industry statistics
- State Departments of Insurance: Official requirements, regulations, and consumer information from each state's insurance regulator
- State DMV Agencies: Driver licensing, SR-22 requirements, and vehicle registration rules
- Federal Government: NHTSA safety data, FTC guidelines, NHTSA recall databases
Secondary Sources
- Aggregated quote data from industry reports (J.D. Power, Consumer Reports, etc.)
- Academic and industry research on insurance pricing factors
- News reports on legislative and regulatory changes
- Insurer-published rate filings and annual reports
Cost Estimates
When we present premium estimates:
- They are based on aggregated national or state-level data when available
- We use multipliers based on documented factor impacts (e.g., age multipliers from actuarial studies)
- Ranges (±20%) account for individual variation and uncertainty
- All estimates are prominently labeled as such and never presented as quotes or guarantees
- Calculator outputs include explicit disclaimers about their limitations
